Giant Beatdown Basics – Sure-Fire Deck for Arena 5-7


Hi there, Corrosive Logic is back with another guide on Giant Beatdown basics.

My last couple of guides have been of top end grand challenge/tournament decks, but today I’ve decided to make something for the lower Arena players.

This is just a very basic guide of a Giant deck, and a very basic explanation of how to play beatdown decks!

How to Play a Beatdown Deck

Beatdown is basically a slow build up deck. Usually they contain the elixir pump but in this case it doesn’t. Usually you play defense until double elixir time, then you exploit the double elixir to conjure a massive unstoppable push.

When you are playing Beatdown, you are not too worried about receiving damage. You should sacrifice a little of your own crown tower damage in order to gain elixir to build up your push.

In these lower arenas, most of the time you won’t even need to build up a push. You can simply use your troops to defend and turn them into an unstoppable counter push. For example in this deck you can use the musketeer and the baby dragon to defend say a giant, then after your successful defense you can play the giant in front of your troops and turn it into a counter push.

The Important Roles of a Beatdown Deck

  • Win Condition – The main win condition is also the tank, in this deck it’s the Giant.
  • Ranged Support Card(s) – In this case it is the musketeer and Baby Dragon. These are important for defending and converting into counterpushes
  • Heavy Hitter – Also a support card but usually used to take down higher HP units. This card won’t appear in every beatdown deck, but in this one we have the Prince. The Prince’s charge is very effective against higher HP cards such as Mini P.E.K.K.A, Knight, Inferno, Cannon etc.
  • Building – The only buildings used in beatdown decks are Pumps, Tombstone or Furnace. You rarely see Cannon or Inferno because they don’t contribute to a big push.
  • MVP Spells – These are a lot more important than people realize. Without them, your pushes can be countered easily. Fireball/Lightning are crucial for breaking down your opponent’s defense.

Hard Counters to the Giant

  • A problem lots of beginners face is the Inferno Tower. Once it charges up there’s nothing you can do to save your Giant. If you can, save enough elixir so that when you are pushing you can Lightning the inferno tower and the crown tower. If you have minions/minion horde you could also play them beside the river just before the inferno locks onto your Giant. If you have a big enough push going, you can zap the Inferno Tower as long as you have sufficient support troops to kill the Inferno before it charges up again. The same goes for the Inferno Dragon.
  • Another hard counter to Giant are swarm high DPS troops. These include Goblin Gang, Goblins, Minion Horde, Skeleton Army. These troops can be killed or highly damaged by the Zap, which leaves your Baby Dragon to finish them off easily.
  • Of course there’s the beefy heavy hitters, Mini P.E.K.K.A, Elite Barbarians, and Barbarians. Against Barbarians try and Fireball if you can, you basically need lots of support units. Against Elite Barbarians, Fireball or Lightning too. Mini P.E.K.K.A is tricky, it’s not worth using Fireball or Lightning on it so you need lots of support units to kill it quickly e.g. Prince + Musketeer.

Giant – A Defensive Card?

Something that players don’t seem to do is using the Giant as a defensive card. It has an insane amount of HP so this tank is so powerful on your own side of the map. The Giant can be used defensively against both small pushes or massive pushes. For example, if your opponent has 3 Fire Spirits coming towards your crown tower, instead of letting them land you could place your giant to absorb them.

Against big pushes you can place the giant on your side to tank, while you place support units such as the Musketeer to kill your opponents big push.
