Hey guys, D-Mate here, and today I’m going to show you my Hog Rider deck since many other Hog Rider decks have been weakened due to balance updates. This deck is strong, and I don’t expect any future updates to affect it, as a free to play player. This deck has pushed me to 2700+. It is hard to learn but powerful once you have mastered this deck. When I first started using it, I lost six fights in a row! I will show you how to use every card, how to use the deck and different deck match ups.
D-Mate’s Hog Rider Freeze Deck
Hog Rider: One of the staples of this deck. Almost all damage to there crown tower will be from him. It is best to use him when the opponent has low elixer. If he has more than you expected and you don’t have time to use the Freeze Spell, you still have the Zap.
Freeze Spell: The other staple of this deck. It counters a lot of things, for example I usually deal with a Giant Wizard with a Freeze spell minion horde, but you want to use it on offense most of the time. For example, if I get a minion horde going to his tower and he counters with a wizard, a well timed freeze can wreak havoc on his towers. And of course. You use it in a hog freeze combo.
Zap Spell: A great card. I could never understand why so many people use arrows instead of it. It’s low cost makes it worth it to kill goblins/spear goblins. For example, some people do Hog Rider + Goblins or Giant + Goblins and other similar combos. Just zap the Goblins then deal with the other troops. The only thing an Arrow rain can do that a Zap can’t is to kill swarms, but then I just either let my tower finish it or bring in some Spear Goblins. It can also be used as a mini Freeze Spell for your Hog Rider. And finally, it compliments the Fireball perfectly. I have destroyed many people using combos like Wizard Musketeer/Three Musketeer combos with Zap. The Fireball takes almost all the Hit Points off of the troop, and the zap spell finishes it off.
Fireball: This card has many uses. It can bring many troops to near death, like Barbarians, Witch, Wizard, Musketeer, and more. Most of the time, without cover these go down wavy a crown tower without getting a hit. It can also be used for destroying weakened Crown Towers. With a damage averaging around 200, this card is great for finishing off those weakened Towers.
Barbarians: A nice card to use on both offense and defense. This card counters Prince. Musketeer, Wizard, Giant, … you name it. On defense, you must learn how to place your barbarians on top. There is no Prince knight or other similar cards so if you don’t do this, then you will get hit pretty hard by the wizard. Sometimes mid battle I place Barbarians behind my tower. When they get closer, place a Hog behind them for an attack hard to counter at a low price.
Minion Horde: Minion Horde is pretty similar to Barbarians in that they are great on both offense and defense. They an also can deal a ton of damage within seconds. On defense, I find it a good choice, even if your opponent uses Arrows. For example. If a Valkyrie comes, I use the Horde. By the time they notice the Horde, fire the arrows, and the arrows reach them, the Valkyrie is usually almost dead. Then your opponent has just spent 7 Elixir (4 for Valkyrie, 3 for Arrows) to your 5.
Spear Goblins: This is a a basic card which is used in over half the decks I’ve seen, and for good reasons. Cheap, helps counter the P.E.K.K.A, can do a lot of damage to a Crown Tower by themselves and can deal with minions left with low health from a Zap.
Building of your choice: Here is where you can make the variations of your deck. If you want something cheap, go with Cannon. Want to overwhelm, Use Elixir Collector. Want more defense? Use Bomb Tower! Struggling with Golem and P.E.K.K.A decks? Use Inferno Tower. I don’t suggest the Tesla as its last rebuffing made it too weak to use.
How to play the deck:
As this is a counter deck, never start the fight with a push! The basis of this deck is to counter attacks, leaving them with no damage on your towers, then use the hog when they have low elixer for your own (weaker) push. It’s made for defense over offense. For example, if you have a Hog, Freeze spell, Minion horde, and Spear goblin on your hands and your opponent plays a Prince Bomber, counter with a minion horde. Now that you up 3 Elixir and have a Minion Horde, counter push with a Hog Rider! Now imagine what would happen if you chose to counter push instead of defend? You just spent more Elixir for a less powerful attack!
The best thing to start with in this deck is either your defensive building or Spear Goblins. If you get both. Go with your building: Spear Goblins can be better used on defense later. Now, what will often happen is getting a bad opening hand. What if you get Freeze, Fireball, Zap and Minion Horde/Barbarians/Hog Rider and they start with an Elixir pump? Because you can’t counter, I usually place down the troop and give it no support to see what troops he has and how he responds.
- P.E.K.K.A + Dual Prince decks: Definitely the hardest deck to fight. I usually kill there splash damage troop with spells then use horde or barbarians.
- Mortar and X-Bow Decks: Your building should stop them from hitting your crown tower and you can use your Hog Rider to destroy the Mortar. They usually have too many defenses to stop your hog rider attack. If you just can’t push, it’s better to get the draw!
- Dual Prince Deck: You can easily counter this deck with your Barbarians and Minion Horde. I have no problem dealing this type of deck.
- Hut Decks: Most player hate this kind of Clash Royale decks, for sure. I usually use Zap for Goblin Hut and Fireball for Barbarians, bring the Tower down to 900 HP before the opponent places Huts in front of his Tower. Again, If you think you can’t push, just play for a draw.
